Joke Demeyere was born in 1965 in Kortrijk. She obtained
a degree in fine arts, option threedimensional design –
glass art, in Ghent. Since 1985 she has been a teacher in
glass techniques at the Technical Institute St. Joris in Menen.
She combines her creativity with the aim to technical perfection.
The material which Joke Demeyere starts from is the French
mouth-blown plaque glass, where two layers of glass are blown
over each other. The paper-thin blue enamel lends itself excellently
to take away parts by sandblasting.
Glass dominates the room in all its characteristics:
reflection, transparency, purity, artistic modeling. The blue
motif - designed for Hotel FOCUS - emphasizes these qualities:
windows reflect a blue light on the furniture and the walls,
the shower turns into semi-transparent. Glass becomes art,
which is especially demonstrated by the glass washbasin (creation
of Joke Demeyere).
